Joe Morgan, Class of 1962
Morgan was a two-time National League Most Valuable Player, a 10-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove Award winner. He is widely regarded as one of the best second basemen in baseball history, and he gained renown for his 25-plus years as a broadcaster after his playing career.
"Major League Baseball is deeply saddened by the death of Joe Morgan, one of the best five-tool players our game has ever known and a symbol of all-around excellence," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Joe often reminded baseball fans that the player smallest in stature on the field could be the most impactful."
Morgan spent the majority of his 22-year career with the Reds and the Houston Asros. Along with Pete Rose and fellow Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Tony Perez, Morgan helped the Reds win back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976.
A key member of the Cincinatti Reds' famed Big Red Machine, Morgan died October 11, 2021 at his home in Danville, California. He was 77. Castlemont salutes Knight Joe Morgan.

Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton was recently selected by Gov. Gavin Newsom to serve on the California Victim Compensation Board as the sole public member of the three-person board. The California Victim Compensation Board — CalVCB — is a state program dedicated to providing reimbursement for many crime-related expenses to eligible victims who suffer physical injury or the threat of physical injury as a direct result of a violent crime.
Becton, 69, of El Sobrante, served as a Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge for 22 years, including one term as the presiding judge. She was appointed district attorney in 2017, then retained her seat by winning the 2018 election.
Becton earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Golden Gate University School of Law. "I am proud to join the Victim Compensation Board to ensure victims of crime and their families are compensated and protected," Becton said. Castlemont salutes Knight Diana Becton.
